I think that people have to protect their work because they don't want other people who just copy and paste their work to get credit for it. No one wants another person to get credit for something he/she did or discovered.

I know that copyright is protected by that law that no one else can copy this or this person's work. Copyright have the ability to make someone to go to jail if that person copied something very important.

I think it is important for people to protect their work because if they don't protect their work,other people can use that work and get credit for it. Protecting works online doesn't allow anyone other than the author to use it and change it. If you don't protect your work, your work can get used by others even when you don't want them to and others might change you work to something totally different.
